Walter W Filipek, aged 99.  Beloved husband of the late Helen (nee Depa).  Loving father of Daniel (Jeanne) and James.  Dear grandfather of Scott (Kristin), Joseph, Michael, and Douglas (Elizabeth).  Adored great-grandfather of Emily, Edward, Madeline, and Taylor.  Brother of Chester, Loretta, Edward, and Henrietta.  Cherished brother-in-law and uncle to many. As a member of the United States Army's 3rd Division, Walter served his country with honor during WWII in the African and European Theaters.  During his time overseas, he earned several decorations including the Purple Heart Medal.

Walter was a life member of the American Legion - Thorp, WI, a life member of the Park Ridge Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3579, life member of the Military Order of the Cootie Pup Tent 65, life member of the quarter century club at Hotpoint-General Electric.  Visitation will be held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, 7812 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles, IL on Sunday, June 12 from 4:00 PM until  8:00 PM.  Funeral services to be held Monday, June 13 at 9:15 AM, with procession to St. John Brebeuf for a 10:00 AM mass.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
