Lorraine Elizabeth
Zelisko
Aug 24, 1927 — Apr 28, 2024
Deer Park
Lorraine Elizabeth Giles was born in Chicago on August 24, 1927, as an only child, to Joseph and Martha (Seidler) Giles. She met our Dad, John Rush Zelisko, in the office she worked in, as he was an electrician on duty when they met, in 1946. They got married in 1947, had 2 kids, Bob and Jim, then moved to Wisner St., in Niles, to what would become the family home till the mid 80s.
They had 4 more kids, Danny, Barbara, Jeff and John. That's 15 years of baby making, which they excelled at. There are many grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of which Grandma and Grandpa loved. Bob blessed them with grandsons Michael, Brian, Kevin and Nick; Danny brought granddaughter Danielle; Barbara has Jamie and Valerie for her grand daughter contributions, Jeff and Cathi had Kayla, Zach and Taylor. Danny and Leslie's boys Jake plus Casey and Sylwia just had new great granddaughter Dahlia. Great grandchildren Jimmy and Grace followed from Michael and Cody. Barbara's Jamie and husband Jaime had 3 boys: Mason, Mateo and Marco, with another on the way!
Lorraine and John raised 6 kids in a small house that woulda been tiny for a smaller family but they made do, can't remember how with one working bathroom. Just don't be the last in shower line! Jimmy pre-deceased everyone in 1981, but not without cutting a wide path in his 30 year short life. His passing broke the entire family's heart, but resilience prevailed. His big personality left a mark on us all.
As the kids grew older and moved out of the family home, John and Lor moved to Lake Somerset near Rockford, in 1985. They had their great years together here, but sadly John died in 1995 at the young age of 75, although he would never admit his age. Lor moved to Rob Roy after that and lived there till 2016, spending the winters in Arizona with Danny, Leslie and their kids, and summers in Chicago. Lor spent the last 8 years in assisted living in Deer Park, under the watchful eyes of Barbara and Jeff who were there every other day the entire time she was there.
We are grateful to have had such a wonderful and loving Mom and Dad, and are all truly saddened by Lor's passing. Although she was 96 at the time, it seemed like she would be here forever. Fortunately for her this didn't happen as her engine worked great but her chassis was suffering like an old classic car. Yes, this happens to us all but it still doesn't make anyone feel better to lose such a beloved lady that has been the matriarch of the family for the last 30 years.
We will miss Mom/ Grandma/Lorraine and will never forget her. No more suffering, Mom! Say hi to everyone for us.
From our hearts, with love, Bob, Jimmy, Danny, Barb, Jeff and Johnny.
