Kenneth Frank
Lach
Apr 23, 1954 — Sep 3, 2026
Niles
Kenneth Frank Lach, 72, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and the memories of a life well lived.
Ken was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend whose kindness, strength, and generous spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Born on April 23, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, Ken lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
If you knew Ken, you knew you could count on him. He was dependable to his core, always willing to lend a helping hand, offer advice, or simply be there when someone needed him. He spent many years working as a tool and die maker and train mechanic, taking pride in his work and earning the respect of everyone who worked alongside him. He retired from the Chicago Transit Authority after 14 years, but he never truly stopped working, helping, fixing, or looking out for those he loved.
Ken found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved talking investments, whether sharing his latest idea or hearing about yours. He never passed up the opportunity to crack open a cold Budweiser, tell a story, or enjoy a good laugh with family and friends. He especially loved watching his grandchildren, both human and furry, fill the house and yard with energy and excitement.
Above all else, family was Ken's greatest love and proudest accomplishment. Some of his happiest memories were made on family trips to Canada and North Carolina, weekends spent camping, and cheering on Chicago sports teams of those he loved most. His grandchildren knew Grandpa's visits often came with a few dollars slipped into their hands, not because he had to, but because he genuinely loved seeing their faces light up. He found his greatest happiness in the happiness of others.
Ken is survived by his children, Joseph Lach, Robert (Mandy) Lach, and Heather (Nick) Schnieder; his grandchildren, Caleb and Charlotte; his cherished fur-grandpups, Otto and JJ; his brother, Wayne (Patty) Lach; as well as many loving relatives, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Teresa Lach, whom he missed every day and whose memory he carried in his heart. While their reunion brings comfort to those left behind, Ken's absence will be deeply felt by all who loved him.
Those who knew Ken will remember his warm smile, generous heart, quiet strength, and the way he always made people feel welcome. He taught by example, showing those around him the value of hard work, kindness, and putting family first. Though he is no longer with us, the lessons he shared, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, 7812 N. Milwaukee Avenue Niles, Illinois. Funeral services will begin Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. before processing to the church.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Parish, 8305 N. Harlem Ave, Niles, Illinois with interment immediately following at Maryhill Cemetery.
Ken will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. His family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the family he loved so dearly.
