Obituary

Joseph G. Klest, 69, was born and raised in Chicago's Northwest side the youngest of seven children. He was graduated from Foreman high school and worked as a heating and air conditioner technician while putting himself through the John Marshall Law School. He started his own practice and successfully grew it into one of the Chicago area's premier law firms. He was a good listener and strong advocate for his clients. He took on challenging cases including filing one of the first lawsuits against the Catholic Church for childhood sexual abuse by a priest. He was coauthor of Illinois's 2003 Child Protection Act which extends the statute of limitations for such victims.

A gourmet cook he never made the same meal twice and welcomed many friends and family to his table. An avid fisherman, his car trunk often contained a rod or two. He enjoyed the outdoors annually hiking and canoeing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Smart, curious, and determined he addressed important matters and explored what intrigued him.He grew pinot noir grape vines and giant pumpkins in his backyard. He smoked sausages at the top of a chimney and baked his homemade pizza in an outdoor oven. He created an interesting life.

He is ever loved and remembered by his son, Henry Klest, sister, Mary (Peter) Gallagher , brother Martin (Ann) Klest,  sister, JoKasha Klest'  former spouse, Mary Klest; along with 9 cousins and 23 nieces and nephews who he happily spent time with as he was the bridge between family generations. He was beloved by his late parents John and Regina Klest , and late brothers Tom Klest , Albert Klest  and John Klest .

At the time of his death on November 28, 2022, Joe resided in Lincoln Park  in a condominium that he described as having "the best view of the city".
