Obituary

Joan Rose Hunt (Laurie) nee Dorsch age 89, of McHenry, (formerly of Palatine and Lake Zurich), Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025. She was born on March 1, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Dorsch.
Joan was one of four siblings: Robert (Marge) Dorsch, Thomas (Dorothy) Dorsch, and Gene (Barbara) Dorsch.
She was a devoted mother to her three children: Debbie (Gary) Schinski, John (Norma) Laurie, and Frank (Sue) Laurie. She cherished her role as grandmother to John (Nicole) Hujer, Angela (Kevin) Strauss, Rocco Laurie, Celeste (Ryan) Huber, Nick (Barbara) Laurie, and Nina Laurie. Her legacy continued through her beloved great-grandchildren: Gina (Dylan) Toelke, Johnny, Gianna, Giuliana, and Gino Strauss, Audriana, Dominic, Anthony Huber, Wyatt, Wesley, Adeline Hujer, and Thomas Laurie. She was also blessed to be a great-great-grandmother to Jalen Toelke.

Family was the center of Joan's life. She loved her children deeply and found immense joy in being a grandmother, great-grandmother, and even great-great-grandmother. She treasured every moment with her family and proudly shared in their accomplishments and milestones.
Joan had a passion for travel and adventure, visiting many places around the world and especially enjoying cruises. She also had a creative spirit, finding joy in decorating and painting, and she often lent her talents to help her children and grandchildren with remodeling and painting projects. She loved gardening and planting flowers, filling hers and others home and yard with beauty
She loved a strong cup of black coffee paired with a slice of coffee cake, especially a Swedish flop, and she never passed up an opportunity to shop—always with a keen sense of style and an eye for fashionable clothes.

Beyond her family and hobbies, Joan was also active in her community as a proud member of the Lake Zurich Lions Club, where she built lasting friendships and contributed to service projects that reflected her caring nature.

Joan will be remembered for her love of family, her adventurous spirit, and her zest for life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and beautiful memories.

Donations to Alzheimer's Association will be appreciated.
