Jesus Rene
Dadivas
Jan 11, 1947 — Jun 16, 2024
Niles
Dr. Jesus Rene Dadivas, or "Tong" as known by his close friends and family or "Doc" by many others, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024 at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife Rose (Aclan); daughter Jennifer Hong (Michael); son Joseph Sr (Diane); son J.R. (Jane), and grandchildren, Joey, Jaeren, Sammy, Jackson, Julia, and Jet.
Tong was born in Iloilo, Philippines on January 11, 1947 to Adorico and Dominga Dadivas. He attended the University of Santo Tomas Medical School in Manila where he met Rose. They married in February 1972 and immigrated to Chicago, where they lived in an apartment building in the city and met other newly arrived Filipino couples, who would eventually become the Niño Barkada family. After completing his residency and working at area hospitals, he opened a clinic in the Logan Square area with lower-income residents as patients and sometimes accepted tacos as payment.
Tong and Rose moved to Niles in 1978. They enjoyed hosting many parties and cookouts with their neighbors, family, and friends, always ready with laughter, singing, good food, and cold Miller Lites. Tong was an active member of Our Lady of Ransom Parish, where he was the president of the Filipino community for many years. He was a league bowler in the 80's then became an avid golfer, with numerous trophies around the house from both sports. He was a huge Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls fan, as evidenced by one room in the house filled with Bulls and Jordan memorabilia. He loved watching movies, especially old Westerns, and had a VHS and DVD collection that rivaled Blockbuster Video. He loved to sing and play guitar, first singing Beatles and Beach Boys songs with his brothers in the Philippines, then a wide range of pop songs with the Niño cover band which played for various dinners and functions in the Chicagoland area every weekend throughout the 80's. His Karaoke go-to was always Neil Diamond (or Neil Zirconia as he called himself, then later "Hotel California" as respiratory exercise. Tong will be remembered for his welcoming demeanor and willingness to always lend a helping hand, supportive words, or even money if someone needed it.
He enjoyed ballroom dancing with Rose, unconditionally loved his kids (the JRD's), and adored his grandkids. Tong will be missed by so many.
