Obituary

Helena Gil (nee Komosa), age 72, passed away on Wednesday July 2nd, 2025 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL with her family by her side.

Helena is survived by her loving husband, Andrew Gil. Helena was born in 1953 in Suchowola, Sokółka, Poland, to parents Kazimierz Komosa and Jadwiga Popiełuszko. In 1973, Helena came to the United States with Andrew to start a new adventure and created a new family.

Helena is mother to Elizabeth Plummer (Adam), Bernadette Knight (Lacy) and Peter Gil (Michaelene). She dearly loved and adored all of her grandchildren, Morgan, Matthew, Jameson, Julia, Dylan, Randall and Rebecca.

Helena is survived by many loving family members, including her siblings Czesław Komosa, Janina Naumowicz and Lucyna Magiera.

Helena was a dutiful wife of 53 years, and words are not enough to describe this extraordinary person and her legacy. While she was the most incredible wife, mom, grandmother, friend and family, she had innumerable passions in life. She was an intuitive gardener, amazing chef, cook, and baker, and was a hostess that was beyond compare. Her energy was boundless, finding time for pickleball, traveling, and creating magical memories for her family at every holiday.

She fought a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in September of 2024. After a specialized surgery and successful chemotherapy and recovery, she received the "all clear" in April of 2025. Helena had prevailed, and celebrated with spring gardening, lunches with her sisters and friends, a trip to Jamaica, dancing at a friend's wedding.

She believed that things happen in life for a reason. She was wanted elsewhere and was called very suddenly to leave us and rejoin her dearest family and friends who have passed on before her.
