Dr. Christina M. Chomka Leya; beloved wife of Dr. Fred Leya; loving mother of Dr. Marysa Leya, Dr. Gregory (Dr. Rebecca MacRae) Leya; dearest sister of Dr. Eva Chomka. Dr. Christina Chomka Leya was a devoted mother, wife, and physician. She died surrounded by her family on June 3, 2024. Christina was born in Chicago on August 13, 1955, to Ignacy and Maria Chomka, a Polish architect and a Latin scholar respectively, who came to Chicago after World War II. As a young girl, she was bright and hardworking. She excelled both academically and on the local tennis circuit. Christina graduated the 6-year combined undergraduate and medical school program at Northwestern University. After her anesthesiology residency and critical care fellowship, she devotedly cared for patients as an attending for over three decades. During her training she met her husband, Dr. Fred Leya, who had emigrated from Poland for his own interventional cardiology training. They married in 1986 and raised two beautiful, accomplished children, Marysa and Gregory. Christina's children followed in her path, each becoming dedicated physicians. She selflessly supported her husband and children, and always carried herself with wisdom, grace, and style. She was a force of nature. Christina leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and generosity. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 PM until 8 PM at the Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, 7812 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles IL. Friends are asked to meet on Saturday at Ascension of Our Lord Church, 1S314 Summit Ave., Oakbrook Terrace IL for 10 AM Mass. Interment Maryhill Cemetery. Doktor Krystyna Chomka Leya była oddaną matką, żoną i lekarzem. Zmarła w otoczeniu rodziny 3 czerwca 2024 r.

Krystyna urodziła się 13 sierpnia 1955 roku w Chicago. Była córką Ignacego i Marii Chomka, którzy przybyli do Chicago po drugiej wojnie światowej. Jako młoda dziewczyna była bystra i pracowita. Wyróżniała się zarówno w nauce, jak i na lokalnym torze tenisowym. Krystyna ukończyła 6-letnie połączone studia licencjackie i program szkół medycznych na Northwestern University. Po stażu w anestezjologii i stypendium intensywnej terapii, z oddaniem opiekowała się pacjentami jako lekarz ponad 30 lat. Podczas szkolenia poznała swojego męża, doktor Fred Leya, który wyemigrował z Polski na własne szkolenie z kardiologii interwencyjnej. Pobrali się w 1986 r. i wychowali dwójkę pięknych, utalentowanych dzieci, Marysia i Grzegorz. Krystyny dzieci poszły jej ścieżką, a każde z nich zostało oddanymi lekarzami (Marysia—kardiolog interwencyjny na Northwerstern; Grzegorz—kardiohirug na Harvardzie). Ona bezinteresownie wspierała ich razem z mężem, zawsze postępowała mądrze, z wdziękiem i stylem. Krystyna pozostawiła po sobie dziedzictwo miłości, siły i hojności.

Z zalem donosimy, ze nasza najukochansza, zona, mama i siostra S.P.  Dr. Christina M. Chomka Leya, pozegnala sie z tym swiatem dn. 3 czerwca 2024.
